Multi-tenancy allows many clients to share the same LDAP infrastructure, giving everyone greater operational efficiency.

It used to be that client data had to be maintained on separate instances of LDAP server. But within the Fortress data design, clients can safely share a single server instance, because each has its own storage area set apart in the backend database.

In this way we increase the operational efficiency of the hosting service provider’s data center, without sacrificing data isolation on behalf of the clients who use it.

Multitenancy Defined

Multitenancy refers to a principle in software architecture where a single instance of the software runs on a server, serving multiple client-organizations (tenants). Multitenancy contrasts with multi-instance architectures where separate software instances (or hardware systems) operate on behalf of different client organizations. With a multitenant architecture, a software application is designed to virtually partition its data and configuration, and each client organization works with a customized virtual application.
